We all want a quick fix to healthy glowing skin right? Unfortunately, its not that simple. As we are becoming more and more aware of how our everyday choices can affect our health, we are also becoming more aware of how certain products and ingredients can harm our skin. As the largest organ of the body, protecting your skin is so important! Here are some useful tips to help you along the way. Our tips also featured on the Lorna Jane Blog 'Move Nourish Believe'!

1. Flush out those toxins!

We hear it on the daily – drink at least eight glasses (2 litres) of water every day. Not only does this ensure skin is healthy and hydrated but it also ensures that you are flushing out any toxins in your system.

2. Wear sunscreen!

Don’t think – just do! It’s so important to protect your body’s largest organ, your skin, from harmful environmental aggressors and UVA/UVA rays. Not only will it prevent the early onset of ageing, but eliminate any further sun damage.

3. Exfoliate!

The key to a hydrated and blemish free complexion is definitely exfoliating away those dead skin cells. Find an exfoliant that is gentle enough to use on a daily basis to ensure a fresh canvas before putting on your war paint, like the Alpha-H Gentle Daily Exfoliant.

This is an award winning, zero-abrasion micro-exfoliating treatment which effortlessly lifts away dead, dull and tired skin cells to unveil younger looking skin each morning.

4. Don’t stress!

Stress can make your skin sensitive, dull and can sometimes trigger breakouts. To encourage healthy skin, take steps to manage your stress. Don’t feel bad for taking some R and R time for you! Book in for a massage or schedule a weekly face mask and movie night with your girlfriends.

5. Wash your makeup brushes!

When you use your brushes, bits of makeup, oil, dirt and bacteria get trapped in the bristles which can lead to clogged pores and breakouts. I recommend weekly cleaning for your daily makeup brushes; however a complete clean of all brushes once per month will suffice. Hint: Baby shampoo is best for this.

We just love this DIY makeup brush wash featured on the Move Nourish Believe Blog!

6. Vitamins!

Take your vitamins daily to boost your immune system but don’t forget to apply them topically. Vitamins A, C and E are all integral to maintaining a healthy, dewy complexion as well as fighting off environmental aggressors and the signs of ageing.

7. Super foods need to be part of your diet!

If your diet consists of highly processed and junk foods you probably have a dull and lacklustre complexion. Opt for foods high in essential fatty acids and Omega-3’s (such as berries, wild salmon and spinach) for guaranteed complexion perfection.

8. Use Mineral Makeup!

Pure mineral makeup binds to oils not water. This gives makeup a natural water resistance and is much better for your skin then conventional cosmetics. Traditional makeup contains chemicals, oils and other additives that can either irritate sensitive skin or cause unnecessary breakouts.

9. Do a beauty audit!

Just like the food in your pantry, beauty products have use-by dates. Common side effects of using expired products include skin reactions, conjunctivitis and other infections. Have a toss out of all those old products and treat yourself to the ones you’ve been eyeing off for the past few months.

10. Let your skin breath!

If you can go a day or two without makeup – your skin will love you for it! Spend a weekend a month sans makeup. Get out in the sun (donning your sunscreen of course) and surf and let your skin be al naturale.
