This post is dedicated to answering some of the common questions we are asked by both Liquid Gold newbies and veterans alike. We hope you find them helpful!
What does Alpha-H Liquid Gold do?
In the very simplest of terms, Liquid Gold is a Glycolic Acid based chemical exfoliant; a skin resurfacing treatment which works as a toner, an exfoliator, a serum and a moisturiser. Glycolic Acid is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid which can be found naturally in plants such as sugar beets and sugar cane and helps to break down the “glue” which keeps dead skin cells stuck on the outermost layers of your skin. In one simple stroke, it begins to break down these bonds so that the outermost, dead cells will be shed and reveal fresher, younger and brighter skin underneath. It also penetrates deeper into the skin, taking other ingredients with it, which boost moisture in your skin by increasing its natural production of hyaluronic acid. As such, skin is left brighter and clearer, with less lines, wrinkles, sun damage and pigmentation.
How do I use Alpha-H Liquid Gold?
Using Liquid Gold is very quick and simple! Just wet a cotton round with Liquid Gold, then swipe it over your skin, avoiding the delicate skin around your eyes. Any excess can be used on other areas of your body too! It’s great for keratosis pilaris on areas such as the arms, thighs and even your buttocks. Liquid Gold should be applied of an evening after double cleansing. For best results, don’t follow it with a moisturiser, as this will buffer the low pH and decrease the effect.
How often should I use Liquid Gold?
There is no one answer to this question. Some people might be best to only use this once or twice a week. For others with more robust skins, you may be able to use it every second night. What’s important to bear in mind is that Liquid Gold is very “active”, and its low pH delivery means it is far more effective than products with a higher pH. This means that while you may find you need to use other products with a higher pH every day to get the desired results, you don’t need to with Liquid Gold.
Using an exfoliant of any variety, be it physical, chemical or enzymatic, can result in over-exfoliation. This can leave your skin looking shiny or become sensitised and cause more harm than good.
Is Liquid Gold suitable for teenagers?
We don’t generally recommend Liquid Gold for teenagers as their skin is normally still functioning at its optimum on a cellular turnover level; it still exfoliates itself effectively. This process begins to slow in our 20s. For teenage skins which are experiencing breakouts and congestion, as opposed to these issues being associated with dead skin build up like they can be in more mature skins, it is more often related to the presence of the P. acnes bacteria as well as hormonal changes. Our Clear Skin collection is generally more appropriate for dealing with these kinds of issues.
