By now you’ll know that I’m a fan of cosmeceuticals and always recommend using targeted active serums underneath your moisturiser. Some of the most potent serums are vitamin serums
. I think of these guys as cold-pressed juice for your skin. Targeted and active, they improve skin health at a cellular level, protecting you against free radical and UV damage while hydrating and smoothing fine lines.
However. One of my biggest issues with vitamin serums
has been knowing which ones my skin needs and when I should put them on. If you don’t hold a chemistry degree it’s pretty confusing. So I was intrigued when Australian cosmeceutical brand Alpha-H’s new Vitamin Profiling Collection
landed on my desk. The range of concentrated serums are named with idiot-proof codes that allow you to figure out exactly what your skin needs at that given moment. So Vitamin A is for ‘Anti-Aging’, Vitamin B ‘Builds Moisture’, Vitamin C is ‘Clarity Enhancing’ and Vitamin E is your ‘Emergency Repair’. You can then self-prescribe your serum depending on the state of your skin or what you’re going to be doing that day. For example, you’d load up on B and C if you’re going to be outdoors, or if you’ve had a weird reaction or redness, you’d pile on the E. They’ve even got a cute wheel on the website (link coming soon) which helps you decode what state your skin is in by symptom.
I received my Vitamin Profiling Collection
back in December and have been using them solidly for three months. I tend to use Vitamins B and C in the morning to deal with the sun and environmental damage my skin cops every day and A at night to address my crows feet and frown lines while my skin is in repair mode. I use Vitamin E if my skin’s feeling a bit stressed for some TLC. I love that I can use any moisturiser
afterwards, and feel secure in the knowledge I’m giving my skin its dose of fresh juice.
Honestly? My skin has been super happy of late – no breakouts or sensitivity and it’s looking rather luminous, if I do say so myself. These serums are most definitely the culprits since I’ve done nothing else religiously for my skin over the summer period. When Alpha-H asked me to help them to launch the product – both at their media launch in Sydney and for their international ad campaign – it was a no-brainer. I flew up to The Gold Coast (where the company is based) and we shot some great videos and pics, which I’ll show you over the coming months. In the mean time, do the skincare analysis to work out what your skin is crying out for, and then you can start self-prescribing yourself.
