Maybe we’re just skin geeks, but Meghan Markle’s stunning low-coverage look at her wedding had everyone in the Alpha-H office swooning.

#skinspo!

How can we meagre mortals achieve this glowing “glass skin” look? Surely you need an endless budget and a personal makeup artist, right? Believe it or not, it’s far easier than you might think! As pointed out by Caelia Corse in this article on MamaMia, Meghan’s stunning look simply cements the news that skincare is the new makeup!

Of course, in a world where Kardashian-esque makeup has been the status quo for some time, having that natural glow with low coverage often isn’t something you can achieve overnight. But with a little time and great skincare, it’s 100% possible. If you’re looking to get your skin ready for wedding season in spring, winter is the time to start. Whether you’ll be a bride, a bridesmaid, the mother of the bride or groom, or just a show-stealing guest, here are our hints to get your skin glowing and “glass” like in time for the big day.

Keep your pH in balance

If you’re getting married, or you’re going to be in the bridal party, you’re possibly also on a bit of a fitness kick. Don’t let your sweat sessions come at the cost of glowing, dewy skin! Our sweat is full of salt, and salt changes the pH of your skin, which can lead to breakouts. After you’ve done a workout, be sure to at least wash the sweat off your face with some water to stop it from creating a bacterium breeding ground while you drive home or collapse in a sweaty mess on the couch. Better still, use either our Balancing Cleanser or Triple Action Cleanser to get your skin’s pH back in perfect balance.

Exfoliation is Queen

Run your finger down the side of your nose; does it feel bumpy? Are your pores enlarged? Does your skin have an overall dullness to it? For many of us, exfoliation is something we only remember to do here and there. The difference exfoliation can make to your skin is nothing short of amazing, and definitely something you’re going to want in your life. We wrote a whole other blog post about the types of exfoliants and their benefits just recently; read more here and start incorporating it into your routine stat!

Mask it up

Masks are also often something which we put off or forget about. But the benefits they have for our skin make it very worth taking just 10 minutes out of your day once a week! Different ingredients provide different benefits, so it’s important to think about what you want your mask to achieve and then check which has ingredients that align with this.

Clays are often used in masks to help draw out toxins and impurities in the skin without stripping or leaving it dehydrated. Our Clear Skin Blemish Control Mask features two types of White Clay, plus Macadamia Seed Oil which mimics the skin’s natural sebum and helps restore the skin barrier, and Australian Eucalyptus and Tea Tree for itheir antiseptic, soothing and healing properties.

Our fan favourite Liquid Gold Ultimate Perfecting Mask is a more intense product which doubles as an at-home “mini peel”. Containing AHA superstar Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid, this addition to the Alpha-H line-up also features a super-nourishing base to boost hydration and repair your skin’s barrier function. It’s no wonder this product has fast proven to be a cult favourite!

Pump up the hydration

Water is a necessity for all our organs. More than half your body is made up of water, and it’s essential to our survival. In fact, while a human can last for up to a couple of weeks without food, without water, you’ll die within just days.

Our organs aren’t just internal though; did you know your skin is actually your single biggest organ? If your skin isn’t getting the hydration it deserves, it can lead to dryness, tightness, itchiness and even more wrinkles.

For starters, it’s really important to ensure you’re drinking enough water every day, both for hydration and to flush out any toxins.

However, our water intake isn’t the only factor in skin dehydration. The other is transepidermal water loss (TEWL). While you might be thinking that we’re simply talking about sweat, TEWL is actually a different beast. Invisible and completely separate from sweat, this moisture loss occurs when the skin’s barrier function is impaired.

That’s where moisturisers come in. Ensure you choose one which will boost your skin’s barrier to help it retain the moisture it adds, as well as the water you’ve drunk. Our Essential hydration Cream is an ideal choice for dehydrated skins that need a moisture boost.

Invest in quality skin care

What’s the difference between supermarket brands and cosmeceutical brands like Alpha-H? Surely it’s all the same, right? Why pay more? They key difference lies in the ingredients. Many supermarket brands contain ingredients which can strip the skin, leave its pH out of balance, and potentially make your skin worse. They are also often heavily coloured and perfumed, both of which can be a source of skin irritation.

Conversely, cosmeceuticals are where cosmetics meet pharmaceuticals; Alpha-H’s products are manufactured using only quality ingredients which are all there for a reason and offer amazing benefits for your skin.
